When I am on the wheel I see a spiral, known to be a symbol for time. Creating ceramics coincides conceptually to me with current movements to engage with tradition and commune as opposed to the larger narrative of a defining past of loss and erasure. A creative use of earth and water, ceramic is a material that develops through its own stages. A grounding and porous matter that goes through trans-formations to be.

This is also like journal entries about Caribbean colonial history and erasure of values that generate my practice. Arawak-Taino precolonial ceramics have symbolic designs and shapes that depict ways of life and systems of knowledge that speak to my relationship with home and spirituality.
